Odisha came to us in 2019 and has been generous since. Hotel Grand Siba opened at Sambalpur, the same group came back for a second building, and a hotel at Puri followed. Coastal light and salt air make it a different discipline from anywhere inland.
Hotel Grand Siba was completed at Sambalpur in 2019 for Siba Habitats. The same group commissioned Siba Hotel & Residences, drawn for 2028 — a hotel and residences on one plot, which is a different brief from a hotel and asks the plan a harder question about where the two front doors go.
At Puri, Hotel Bivab was drawn for Bivab Yashila, for 2027. Puri fills for the temple and the sea rather than for business, and a hotel there is planned around arrival in waves, salt in the air, and a season that turns on the festival calendar rather than the financial year.

Two Cities, Two
Different Buildings.
Western Odisha and the coast are not one market. Sambalpur is an inland district town where a hotel earns from business travel, weddings and the function rooms in between. Puri is a pilgrimage and seaside city where the same floor area wants to face the water, take a crowd on a festival week, and stand up to salt for twenty years.
The plans reflect that. Function space and back of house carry the argument inland; arrival, orientation and the durability of every external finish carry it on the coast.

Odisha is the furthest of the four states from the studio, and distance is the whole case for keeping the disciplines together. Architecture, structure, mechanical and electrical, fire fighting, interiors and landscape are drawn into one model in Nagpur, so what reaches the site has already been reconciled.
There is no consultant to telephone from a plot eight hours away, and no second visit to correct a clash that a coordinated set would have caught.

Salt. It decides the external specification, the fixings, the services routing and the maintenance regime long before anything aesthetic is settled, and a finish chosen without it fails early.
