Inside Them.

Four hundred completed buildings stand behind this practice. These are the hospitality projects with names — hotels, jungle resorts, restaurants and banquet halls — for twenty-nine brands and developers across seventeen cities, since 1982.

Hotel and Resort Architects
in Central India.

Fifty-one named hospitality projects for twenty-nine brands and developers, in seventeen cities and regions across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. City hotels in Nagpur, Raipur, Amravati, Bilaspur, Chandrapur, Raigarh, Rajnandgaon, Chhindwara, Sambalpur and Puri. Resorts at the tiger reserves and in the hills at Chikhaldara. Banquet estates, standalone restaurants and expansions of buildings we drew twenty years earlier.

Almost every one of them ran on a single appointment covering architecture, structure, MEP, fire fighting, interior design and landscape. On a hotel that is not a convenience, it is the difference between a false ceiling height decided once and a false ceiling height argued about twice: the guest-room module, the service risers, the kitchen extract and the structure all have to agree, and they agree faster when the same office draws them into the same model.

A developer choosing hotel architects is really choosing who carries the project after the drawings — bills of quantities, tender documentation, contractor evaluation and the site. That is part of the appointment here, which is a large part of why nine clients on this record came back for a second building.

Jungle Resort Architects,
Since 1997.

Resorts inside or on the edge of four central Indian tiger reserves — Kanha, Pench, Tadoba and Bor — beginning with Tuli Tiger Resort at Kanha in 1997 and running to Resort Tuli Wildlife at Bor. Twenty-eight years of building in buffer zones, for operators including Radisson, Sterling, ITC WelcomHeritage, Club Mahindra, Tuli and Accord.

A jungle resort is not a hotel moved into a forest. The site usually has no mains anything, so water, power, sewage and fire have to be solved on the plot. Guest accommodation spreads low and wide instead of stacking, which turns every service run into a distance problem. Construction access is limited and often seasonal. Material has to be got to site and has to age outdoors without maintenance nobody will be there to give it. And the building sits inside an ecology that was there first — drainage, lighting and the position of every structure answer to that before they answer to a view.

Which is why this is a specialism rather than a category, and why the record of them is worth publishing in full.

The wildlife record

Where We Build.

Nagpur is where the studio sits, and these places carry enough built work to be worth a page of their own. Each lists the named record there, oldest first.

  • 01Raipur7 named projects, 1999–2027.
  • 02Amravati6 named projects, 2011–2026.
  • 03Tadoba3 named projects, 2025–2027.
  • 04Pench5 named projects, 2011–2025.
  • 05Kanha2 named projects, 1997–2010.
  • 06Raigarh5 named projects, 2004–2028.
  • 07Nagpur11 named projects, 1982–2028.

Above them sit the states: Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha — and the practice across India, every one named and dated.

The wildlife resorts run across four tiger reserves and have their own account: jungle and wildlife resort architecture, from Kanha in 1997 to Tadoba now.

Ar. Shashank Nashine at CO Architects

Experience in
Los Angeles.

Before returning to the Nagpur studio, our lead architect worked in Los Angeles as one of the architects at CO Architects — two Kaiser Permanente medical centres and the modernisation of a Los Angeles Unified high school.

These are CO Architects’ buildings, credited to them throughout, and each was the work of a large team. They are here because hospital and school planning is a discipline of its own, and it is one we can bring to a project in central India.
