The original Babylon property, and the start of a relationship that has now run to five hotels in one city.
The building established the ancient-Babylon theme the group has carried ever since — relief, colonnade and a deep shaded entrance.
Its expansion, which doubles the property and rebuilds the frontage in full, has its own page.
The theme this building fixed has had to survive twenty-five years of changing taste, which is the real test of a house style. It works because it was set in the architecture — relief, colonnade, a deep shaded entrance — rather than in the fit-out, where it would have been redecorated away.
Babylon Hospitality have kept commissioning us in the same city since 1999, and its expansion was drawn from this original set.
