A glazed corner block that takes its address from a city junction rather than a plot.
The plan turns the corner instead of squaring off against it, so the glazing works as a single continuous face and the entrance sits where the footfall already is.
Retail occupies the base; the hotel sits above it.
Putting retail under a hotel means two buildings sharing one structure. The shops want a column grid and a floor-to-floor height the rooms do not, deliveries and guest arrival cannot use the same door, and the fire compartments have to separate uses that keep different hours.
Turning the corner rather than squaring off against it also settles the servicing. The continuous face takes the address and the footfall, which leaves the quieter flank free for the back of house that every hotel has to put somewhere.
