A family resort on the Kanha buffer, built for repeat stays rather than a single night.
The pool is the centre of the plan and is built for use — floating seating, shaded decks, and enough edge for a full house rather than a photograph.
The specialty restaurant is roofed in a woven bamboo lattice over arched niches, which is where the vernacular in this project actually sits.
A resort built for repeat stays is planned differently from one built for a single night. The same families come back for years, so the pool, the restaurant and the play areas have to hold more than one holiday's worth of use, and the rooms have to work for four people rather than two.
On the Kanha buffer, power, water and sewage treatment are made on the plot rather than drawn from a mains, and the monsoon closes the season in which any of it can be built.
