A white cellular screen wrapped around the corner of a tight Chandrapur plot.
The screen carries the building’s identity and does the environmental work at the same time, shading the glazing behind it through the hottest part of the day.
The cells open up towards the top of the elevation, so the mass lightens as it rises.
Chandrapur summers are severe, and a screen on the exposed face is the cheapest heat the building will ever avoid — shade costs nothing to run, where the same load removed by machine is paid for every afternoon for the life of the hotel.
On a tight corner plot the elevation is the only surface a passer-by ever reads, and the plan behind it can give up nothing to it. Opening the cells towards the top lightens the mass without changing a single room.
